Question 2

How many tree seedlings are needed to plant one hectare of forest?

Answer

The number of seedlings required per hectare depends on the tree species, planting conditions, and applicable forestry regulations. In Latvia, initial planting densities commonly range from approximately 2,000 to 3,000 seedlings per hectare, although requirements differ by species and site. Before ordering, it is important to calculate the necessary quantity according to the planned forest regeneration method and current regulations.

Question 3

When is the best time to plant forest tree seedlings in Latvia?

Answer

Spring and autumn are the main forest planting seasons in Latvia. Spring planting usually begins after the soil has thawed and conditions allow planting, while autumn planting depends on suitable soil moisture and temperatures. The optimal planting period also varies by tree species and seedling type. Avoid planting during extreme heat, drought, or frozen soil conditions.

Question 4

How do I successfully regenerate a forest after clear-cutting?

Answer

Successful forest regeneration begins with evaluating the site, choosing suitable tree species, and selecting quality planting material. Depending on site conditions, soil preparation may be necessary before planting. After planting, young trees should be monitored and protected from competing vegetation, browsing damage, and other risks. In Latvia, forest owners must also follow applicable forest regeneration requirements and deadlines.

Question 5

Which tree species are best for forest regeneration in Latvia?

Answer

Birch, Norway spruce, and black alder are among the tree species commonly used for forest regeneration in Latvia. The best choice depends on soil conditions, moisture levels, site characteristics, and forest management objectives. Birch is often suitable for well-lit sites, spruce for appropriate fertile forest soils, and black alder for moist or wet areas. Choosing the right species helps establish a healthy and productive forest.

Question 6

What is the difference between container-grown seedlings and seedlings with improved root systems?

Answer

Container-grown seedlings are cultivated in individual growing cells, keeping their root systems protected within a growing medium. Seedlings with improved root systems are typically grown using methods that promote stronger root development and a more established planting structure. Both types can be suitable for forest regeneration, but their suitability depends on species, planting conditions, and site preparation.

Question 7

How much do forest tree seedlings cost?

Answer

Forest tree seedling prices depend on the species, seedling type, order quantity, and nursery. Birchers offers birch, spruce, and black alder seedlings, with prices typically quoted per 1,000 seedlings. For accurate pricing and availability, visit the Birchers seedling selection page or contact our team for a quotation.
